Mr. Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu was born in Apapa–Ajegunle in Lagos State on 30th October, 1962 to the family of Sir and Lady Michael Hunsu Whenu, the Baale and Olori of Ajegunle Kingdom in Agege who hailed from Badagry but had long settled in Agege, Lagos.

He started schooling early in life at the age of four at Christ Apostolic Church Primary School, Agege in 1966. He later proceeded to Lagos African Church Grammar School, Ifako-Agege on January 8th 1973, left in 1977 and later went to Progress College, Oko-Oba, Agege to complete his Secondary Education. He had a short stint at Baptist High School, Ede between September 1979 and June 1980 where he went for his Higher School Certificate.

Having obtained the relevant pre-requisites, he secured admission into University of Lagos, Akoka in 1980 where he studied Science Education with Biology as major and graduated in June 1984. On completion of his National Youth Service at Wushishi, Niger State, he proceeded to Nigerian Premier University, University of Ibadan where he obtained a Masters Degree in Curriculum Development and Instruction in September 1986. He also has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos.

He started his working career as Lecturer III at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka in April 1988. He left the College in 1993 to join the Lagos State Public Service as Inspector of Education in the Ministry of Education.

In 1997, he got converted to the Administrative Officers’ Cadre and was deployed to the Central Projects Coordination Department of the then Plans, Programmes and Budget Bureau (PPBB) which metamorphosed to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget in 1999.

In 2002, as Chief Administrative Officer he was deployed to the Cabinet Office, Office of the Secretary to the State government where he served as Director of Finance and Administration and a member of the team covering the State Executive Council meetings. He was promoted to the post of Deputy Director in 2006.

He was deployed to the Public Service Office to head the Service Matters Directorate in September, 2008 where he was until his appointment as a Permanent Secretary in the State Public Service on Thursday, 27th March, 2014. Between April  2014 – August 2015, he was Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth, Sports & Social Development, served in the Ministry of Transportation between August 2015 and January 2017 and presently in the Governor’s as the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Chief Of Staff where he has been since February, 2017.

Mr. Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu is happily married to Mrs. Omobolanle Adejuwon Whenu and the marriage is blessed with children.
