MR. LADI LAWANSON – Hon. Commissioner

Polyglot, management and financial services expert and renewable energy enthusiast, the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Lawanson, Oladipo Akinwale was born on Monday, April 10, 1967 in the Suru Lere area of Lagos State.An old student of  Kings College, Lagos where he sat for and obtained the  West African  School Certificate in June 1982, the then young Oladipo  went on to obtain his High School Diploma at the American Cooperative School, Monrovia, Liberia in 1984. The thirst for additional academic qualifications saw him at the University Of Liberia, Monrovia, between 1985 and 1990 where, on completion of the prescribed courses of study, he was awarded Bachelor Degree in Business Administration {Management/Public Administration}

Work life started for ‘Ladi in January 1990 with City Financial Planners, (M&I Group) London, England where as Trainee Financial Consultant, he provided Business and investment services as well as insurance and retirement services until May 1993 when he moved on to Xonyx Nigeria Limited, a general services providing company as its Managing Director.

A fringe player in the nation’s oil sector, he was until his appointment, a Director of Wallam Incorporated, a Monrovia, Liberia based company which facilitates business relationship between Nigeria and Liberia. His interest in renewable energy led to his being invited onto the board of Hermitage Consult, a solar energy services providing company in Lagos which is currently facilitating Institutional Solar Energy Adoption under the auspices of the Nigerian-German Energy partnership.

In spite of his grueling schedule, Ladi Lawanson, as he is popularly known, found time to go back to the University of Lagos to acquire the Master Degree in International Law and Diplomacy during the 1999-2000 academic session.

A transportation enthusiast too, the sitting Honourable Commissioner was also until his appointment, on the Boards of Legacy Insurance Limited,  (the  company which  facilitated insurance policy for staff and students of Federal University, Oye Ekiti, the Central bank of Nigeria) and  that of Aquatransit Services Limited, an Executive Ferry Services  and water transport  and logistics consulting company.

A philanthropist of note, he is current Chairman of the School Based Management Committee, Federal Science Technical College, Lagos, Member, Queens College Think Tank (2016-2017) and past Vice President and past General Secretary of Kings College Old Boys’ Association at different times. He has also been President, Society of International Law and Diplomacy, (1999), Assistant Secretary, Nigerian Students’ Association, University of Liberia, (1988).

As part of his community development interests, he facilitated the construction of the Sports Pavilion in Queens College and a solar-powered borehole each in Queens College, Yaba and Federal Science Technical College, Lagos.

A member of the Nigerian-Britain Association and Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce, Ladi Lawanson, who speaks, Yoruba, French, English and Spanish is married to Professor Taibat Lawanson with three children.

His hobbies include Martial Arts, Reading and Community Development activities.
