SUSAN YEJIDE KOLAWOLE (Nee OKUSANYA) was born on the 25th of January, 1965, in Forestgate, E7, England. She had her early education in Forestgate, England and Lagos, Nigeria. She graduated from the University of Ife, (now known as Obafemi Awolowo University,) Ile- Ife, (presently in Osun State,Nigeria) in July 1985, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in October 1986. She is a Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria appointed in February 2006.


Her experience in General Legal Practice spans a period of Thirty Two (32) years post qualification, covering a stint as Senior Partner, Kolawole, Kolawole & Co., a Law Firm based in Lagos from April 2007 to July 2008, and Associate/Deputy Head of Chambers of Olumide Sofowora’s Chambers September 1996 to March 2007.


In these capacities, she assisted Clients with advice and representation across the full range of legal matters, in all tiers of Courts in Nigeria, with notable expertise both as Counsel and Adviser in Corporate, Commercial, Maritime and other matters in Nigeria.


She was also Company Secretary/Legal Adviser to various Financial/Mortgage Banking Institutions between April 1992 and August 1996, after serving her pupilage as a Junior Counsel in the Law Firm of Adenugba Adesina & Co for five years.


Susan joined the Public Service of Lagos State in September 2008, when she was appointed as Deputy Director in the Directorate of Civil Litigation, coordinating all the civil Matters in which Lagos State Government was involved. She later became the Director and Head of the Directorate. In October 2016, she was deployed to become the Director and Head of the Directorate of Legislative Drafting in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, the Directorate that was responsible for the formulation of Bills for all areas of governance which eventually get passed into the Laws of Lagos State, as well as subsequent amendments of existing Laws and Regulations, in conjunction with the Law Reform Commission of the State.


Presently, She is the Director/Legal Adviser and Head of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Transportation, in which capacity she advises  on major Policy decisions of the Ministry, particularly in the area of guidance for compliance with extant Laws, due diligence with regards to major Transport Sector Projects and compliance/enforcement of  the Harmonized Transport Sector law.


She has attended several Training programmes, Conferences and Seminars, both locally and internationally relating to her job functions.


She is a member of the following  bodies Nigerian Institute of Management, Nigerian Bar Association, International Federation of Women Lawyers (F.I.D.A), International Bar Association and Law Reform Commission.
